From the late 1990s, Aase Schibsted Knudsen became active in the organization FPE (Freedom of Personal Expression) in Sweden. She later joined the Norwegian chapter which today is called Forbundet for Transpersoner i Norge. She has also been part of the trans-political issues group in LLH (Norwegian National LGBT+ Organization, today called FRI). Today, Schibsted Knudsen is a Professor Emerita.

In our interview, Schibsted Knudsen speaks about her childhood and how it was growing up at a time where knowledge and understanding about transgender people was practically non-existent. It wasn't until after she married and had children that she got in contact with other transgender people through the association FPE. The meetings were strictly secret, with code names for every member. Every member was also given a code that could be connected to their address, so they could receive newsletters in the mail, but only one single person in the association was able to match the codes to the addresses.

In this excerpt from the interview, Schibsted Knudsen speaks about the early days in FPE and the strict secrecy that surrounded all the association's activities.

The complete interveiw is available at Skeivt arkivs reading room. Skeivt arkiv met Aase Schibsted Knudsen at Lillehammer, Februay 2019.
