Arne Skalleberg (born 1953)

Skalleberg was a member of HBV (Homofil bevegelse Vestfold) and, during his student years, of HBB (Homofil bevegelse Bergen). He also played a key role in launching HOT (Homofiles opplysningstelefon), the gay information helpline, in the early 1980s.

In the life story interview conducted by Skeivt arkiv, Skalleberg speaks about queer community life in smaller towns like Tønsberg and Sandefjord. He was deeply involved in the local scene, contributing to both the organization and running of social events and gatherings.

An excerpt from the interview is available in the video window below. Here, he talks about his approach to visiting schools to give talks on being queer, and how he has been open about his identity throughout his teaching career.

The full interview is available at Skeivt arkiv, part of the Special Collections at the University Library in Bergen.

We met Skalleberg at his home in Sandefjord, in September 2017.
