Just 20 years old, Bjørn Brudal became a member of the trans organization FPE-Norge (Freedom of Personal Expression Norway). At that time, it was secret organization, with strict guidelines for secrecy around members' identities.

In the interview, Brudal talks about a childhood characterized by the feeling of being on the outside, and not finding his place. It was through a newspaper notice in Arbeiderbladet in 1988, in an article about transvestites, that he for the first time read about like-minded people and realized where he belonged. The article also contained FPE-Norge's postal adress. He wrote them a letter and became a member of the organization at the age of 20.

In the excerpt from the interview, Bjørn speaks about the first time he was in contact with FPE, the strict rules, and how he had to choose his own female name, a "cover" name.

The complete interview is accessible in Skeivt arkivs reading room. Skeivt arkiv met Bjørn Brudal in Lillehammer, February 2019.
