Claus Drecker was one of the founding members of the activist group Soperligaen. He served on the national board of the Norwegian National Association for Lesbians and Gays (DNF-48) from 1971 to 1977, acting as chair during the final two years. From 1977 to 1979, he was also editor of the movement’s magazine Fritt fram, giving voice to a growing and increasingly visible queer community.

In the spring of 2016, Skeivt arkiv met with Drecker, who shared how he and his partner Herbert found their way into Oslo’s queer scene in the mid-1960s, after moving from Germany.
