Gerd Brantenberg made her literary debut in 1973 with the legendary satirical novel Opp alle jordens homofile (Rise Up, All the World’s Homosexuals). The book marked the beginning of a writing career that has meant a great deal to readers both in Norway and abroad.
Brantenberg was active in the Norwegian League of 1948 (DNF-48) and the Women’s Rights Association during the 1960s. In the 1970s, she became involved in the new feminist movement and was one of the driving forces behind the Lesbian Movement.

Skeivt arkiv (Queer Archives) met with Brantenberg in the autumn of 2016, where she spoke, among other things, about the op-ed she published in Dagbladet in 1965 under the pseudonym Eva O. In this excerpt from her life story interview, she also talks about her first encounter with DNF-48—outside Møllhausen Konditori at Karl Johans gate 17.
