Gudmund Vindland (born 1949)

The novels portray, in a semi-autobiographical style, the life of Yngve Vilde, a gay man, from youth to adulthood. The author also had a turbulent romantic relationship with Jens Bjørneboe, which is also depicted in the books.

Villskudd (Wild Seed) and Stjerneskudd (Shooting Star) brought Vindland national recognition, and for many young readers, the books became deeply significant.

In the excerpt from the interview in the video window below, Vindland shares the moment he realized he was gay, and how personally difficult that experience was for him.

The full interview is available at Skeivt arkiv, part of the Special Collections at the University Library in Bergen.

We met Vindland—who now goes by the surname Vindsund—in Oslo, in April 2017.
