Vera Danielsen (born 1956)

DJ Vera Danielsen is an icon for anyone who has ever been part of the queer nightlife scene in Eastern Norway.

She began her DJ career in her hometown of Fredrikstad in the early 1980s, but it was at the café Coco Chalet in Oslo—and later at the nightclub Recepten—that she made a name for herself in the capital. Since then, her music has filled venues like Potpurriet, Bitch Club, So, Elsker, and countless women’s nights.

She is also the driving force behind Fredrikstad på Skeiva, a local queer initiative.

In the autumn of 2016, Skeivt arkiv interviewed Danielsen, who shared stories from her years at Coco Chalet and Recepten.
